Warm cheese, herb & onion dip
A perfect winter dip, make a batch and freeze! Serve warm.

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 200 g bacon diced
- 1 tbsp S&P cheese & herb flavouring
- 1 tbsp chopped chives
- 250 g cream cheese softened
- 160 ml cream
- 125 g sour cream
- 135 g grated cheddar or tasty cheese
- 0.5 cup Grated cheese extra for topping
- 1 tsp S&P cheese & herb flavouring extra for topping
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and bacon. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until bacon is browned and onion has softened. Remove from heat.
- Reserve 1 teaspoon of the chives for garnish. Add remaining chives and the cheese and herb flavouring to bacon mixture. In small microwave-proof bowl or jug combine cream cheese, cream, sour cream and grated cheese. Add onion mixture and mix until combined. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat in microwave for 1 minute intervals on high until cheese is melted together.
- Preheat oven to 180C.
- Pour into serving dish and top with the extra grated cheese for topping. Warm in the oven until the cheese has melted and the dip is browning around the edges. Remove from the oven and sprinkle over the extra tsp of S&P cheese & herb flavouring.
- Serve with toasted pieces of cheese and herb bread, selection of vegetables etc. To toast cheese and herb bread, use basic bread recipe (see link below). Tear off pieces and sprinkle with olive oil and cook in the oven until crispy.
Notes
Serves 12 . Suitable to freeze. Defrost overnight.
